~ COVER REVEAL ~ LOSING JOHNNY - Book II in the Johnny Series

So, the cat's out the bag (no pun intended). JOHNNY - A NEW ADULT NOVEL ends on one dizzying cliffhanger... I confess, it was all done with malice aforethought and premeditated.

But, fear not, my name is not Justin Cronin, and you don't need to wait over a year for a sequel!

Book Two of JOHNNY has an official release-date planned for Dec 12, 2014 and is already available for PRE-ORDER on Amazon. (The Amazon Release Date is set to Jan 15. That's only to take into account any catastrophes between now and then, but you can expect it on Dec 12th barring any cataclysms!)

There will be a total of three books in this series. Depending on interest, I might write a few branch-off stories from other characters.

Book Two is a FULL-LENGTH NOVEL of approx 300 pages. (Final page count will be available once the paperback is put up for sale.)

Check out the synopsis below!

SYNOPSIS

Life can change. So quickly, so suddenly. One day you're driving down the freeway, your face lit up by yellow sodium lamps, music blaring through the radio, and you're singing, and the guy next to you is singing, and he turns to look at you, just for a second, a moment, that final smile lasting forever in your mind afterwards--

And then you're upside down, and there are screams and moans, a shattered windshield, spinning wheels, the glug-glug-glug of falling gas, and the man you love is next you.

And he's not moving.

-------------------------------------

My name is Catherine Ramsey. Most people call me Cathy. Patricio Abreu, Johnny's father, always called me either Catty or Cattehreen, but that was because of his accent.

Johnny, however, always called me Cat.

I loved it when he called me that.

Dad liked Johnny very much.

That is, until he kissed me...

But that was when we were kids. And I remember even wiping the kiss off my face.

Five years later, however, it was all I could do to hope for the feel of those lips on my skin once again. Or on my lips, or even the flavor of his tongue.

The haunting appeal of Johnny's pale green eyes had found its way into my dreams, my nightmares, my thoughts, and my diary.

But by then, Johnny had his finger in another pie.

Her name was Nicole.

-------------------------------------

Cat Ramsey thought she had the perfect life--a home in the suburbs, a loving family.
And then one day it all came crashing down.

Her world collapses.
She's adrift.
She's afraid.
She's alone.

She turns to the boy next door...

DEEP SOUTH - NAIVE MISTAKES #4 - NOW AVAILABLE!

BUY IT NOW!

DEEP SOUTH - NAIVE MISTAKES #4

The highly anticipated sequel to the Naive Mistakes Series!

This is a full-length novel with no cliffhanger and which can be read on its own!

What People Said After Book Three:
"Loved it and want more!" ~ B&N
"...wish there was a 4th book..." ~ Amazon
"Loved the series — would love a 4th book" ~ Goodreads

Well, now there is one...

Here's how we roll in Book Four:
Conall Williams – billionaire, British, inked to the max and sexy to the core. Heir to a fortune so large that people shiver at mention of his family’s name.

Leora Caivano – raised privileged on the Upper East Side, kickin it up in Britain now, living it up with the hottest, sexiest, most amazing bad-ass to hit the face of the earth. (Did we mention Conall?)

But now... Bettina Langford—High Queen and biatch of the University of England. Kicking her ass just ain’t simple enough. Because she’s connected.

There’s that haute coutere fashion designer who has them running until they’re falling asleep on the train on their way home. There’s Kayla’s mom—high-class Madame from New York City. There’s Leora’s mom (basically, a drunk.) There’s Leora’s Dad (“Tony”)—but we can’t tell you much about him...yet. There’s a pool fight, a barfight, a chick-fight, a man-fight... There’s Trey—the MI6 (we think...) best friend of Conall. The West-End Boys. “Clint Eastwood.” There’s computer hacking, there’s sex, intrigue, secrets. There’s a break-up. There’s a wedding...

In other words, this is Naïve Mistakes, baby. And nothing in Naïve Mistakes is simple. Something is always happening, there’s always danger, there’s always love, and there’s always steam, lots of steam. Dripping loads and buckets of it...

Enjoy the ride...

New Foreword for KNOW ME - TRUTHFUL LIES BOOK ONE

There is a new foreword for the e-book of KNOW ME - Book One of the Truthful Lies Trilogy.

For those of you who've already purchased it, here it is for you as well.

FOREWORD

August 02, 2014
This foreword was added several months after initial publication.

Highly Recommended That You Read This First

You know you’re in deep shit when you have to read a foreword. You know the author’s about to explain or justify or make excuses or say she’s sorry for writing this tale and will you please forgive her.
Well, might as well get it over with:
I’m not sorry.
I wrote this tale sincerely, researched my ass off, and worked my fingers to the bone to get it out. It was written from the heart and all the angst and pain and emotions that it contains come from a dark place that I hope I don’t have to tap into again anytime soon, because this story is intense!
Romance is a tricky genre. It is the genre, in my opinion, that allows for the least amount of experimentation. People want a guy, a girl, a meet-cute (a sweet first-encounter scene), and then they want chemistry and steam—the degree of which (and explicitness of which) is determined by the subgenre.
In my limited experience, I’ve come to appreciate one thing: If I step too far out of those boundaries, I get two types of reviews: Rave-amazing-incredible-wow five-star reviews; and the You’re-such-a-crappy-author-you-ruined-my-life-and-I-hate-you-and-your-books-forever-and-ever reviews. As if this FREE book that the person has just read has eternally ruined their Feng Shui or something....
Note that I’m talking about myself here. Not other writers’ experiences. This  is just a personal chit-chat between you and me now, OK?
Whenever I don’t step out of those bounds, I get one type of review: “Uh-huh. I liked it. It was...‘Pretty good.’”—no hate, but no real love either, baby.
I like the love.
And I can live with the hate.
But I can’t stand “Pretty Good...”
This book you’re about to read...stepped out of the boundaries. (It wouldn’t be a Rachel Dunning novel if it didn’t.) And, boy, did it freakin step OUT!
Personally, I liked this series more than the Naive Mistakes Series (which people loved apparently.) But that’s because I also have my own tastes. And I’m a little bitty of a dark soul myself..., so I tend to like the grittier stuff when I read.
So, why this boring foreword then? Where is the apology or explanation?
Know this: In Book One only, there is more slang than in Books Two and Three, and probably more than you’re used to reading in this genre in general. I fine-tuned endlessly to make that slang understandable within the context of the sentences and paragraphs it was being used in. Perhaps this means you’ll have to read a sentence or two more than once to fully get the meaning. But, hey, isn’t it cool that you also get to learn something from a book you’re reading?
Just stick with the story. It gets easier. I also smoothed things out in Books Two and Three.
I was trying to make this story real. And, well, people talk like that.
I certainly talked like that once upon a time. Different slang, different words, a different era—but deep-and-thick slang nonetheless.
I worked my butt off to make the text understood to you, the reader. If you rub two brain cells together, you’ll get the gist of it. Trust me.
And if you don’t get it, heck, it prob’ly ain’t that important anyway!
The slang was put in deliberately, carefully, purposefully. The story would have been a pie-in-the-sky load of crap! if I’d made these gritty, passionate characters talk like the freaking Queen of England, or even like some Upper East Sider!
What a freakin farce.
To apologize for something that was done with every artistic forethought possible would be an even greater farce.
If you’re hoping to read something while thinking about your son’s soccer match or what Mary is wearing to Janie’s wedding—this isn’t the book for you. Sorry, but you might have to concentrate a little harder than usual while reading this one, at least in some parts. If the reviews are anything to go by, the rewards will be worth it if you do.
Some of the best reviews I’ve ever gotten were gotten from this very book you’re about to read! Reviews which almost brought tears to my eyes. One review compared this work to poetry because it was so emotional.
Those people got it.
I hope you do, too.
Enjoy the read.
Love,
RD

New Foreword for FINDING NORTH - Book One of Naive Mistakes

I've added a new foreword to FINDING NORTH in preparation for Book Four which is coming out later this year. I will try and get Amazon to send an update to those of you who've already read it, but I am publishing it here as well in case that doesn't happen. (Same goes for all you iBooks, Nook and Kobo readers.)

Here we go!

FOREWORD

July 28, 2014
Here we are, almost a full year since first publishing Finding North, and thirteen or so other novels later.
I’ll be the first to admit that the writing style in this particular book you’re about to read is...different. Notice I didn’t say “bad.” I didn’t say “bad” because, despite the mountain of parentheses I felt needed to be used to write this story, people loved it. They more than loved it. Their reviews, emails, comments, kept me writing. They kept me writing so much that it has become quite realistic that, in the very near future, this will be officially considered my “day job.”
I pondered numerous times in this last year whether or not I should go and change the personal thoughts of the character and remove the parentheses and run-on sentences. Whereas some people loved it, a small amount felt the need to blast cannons and missiles in my direction as if I had broken some Holy Law of Writing, some venerable canon or doctrine of The Way it Should Be Done.
Friends, this is why they call it “Art.”
I decided against changing anything in this book, because in doing what I did, I nonetheless gathered to myself a small number of dedicated fans, people I am eternally grateful to, and to whom I owe, without a doubt, my later books. I am today a writer because of these people.
So, to you, New Reader, all you need to know is this:
Stick with this story. In re-reading it several times myself, I can safely say to you that the “confusing” parts, if any, are mostly in the beginning.
Books Two and Three (as well as all my later stories) made less use of the ubiquitous parenthesis.
This was the first book I wrote that got any sort of respectable sales and following.
Writers improve the more they right.
The first edition of this book had so many typos that I almost choked when I re-read it a month later in writing East Rising (Book Two.)
The same thing happened again when I re-read it just before writing West-End Boys (Book Three.)
Now, in preparation for a Book Four which people have been clamoring for, I found yet another four typos and fixed them.
Here’s the interesting thing: No one ever mentioned the typos! They mentioned the parentheses. And they mentioned how they loved the story!
Writing style is one thing.
Storytelling is another.
I certainly hope you put any preconceived ideas away as to “style” before reading this story. I certainly hope you understand that even I know it could have been better. I certainly hope you understand, also, why I didn’t change anything in this tale—because doing so would ruin whatever “magic” the story did contain which made it the success it is today.
Lastly, I hope the story of Finding North carries you away as it did so many other people.
All my love,
RD

Release Schedule (Next Book and........ NAIVE MISTAKES 4)

There's something cool, something really awesome, something fantabulous, coming on July 20. It's a standalone novel, about 250 pages. I think you're gonna love it, gonna love the characters, gonna fall in love with the guy, the girl, the story... Darn it, I can't wait to release it!

It's about an overweight girl with a voice from heaven, and the dude who falls in love with her. (And what a hot Alpha Male this guy is! Yikes! And a heart-breaker, and a swoon-worthy yummy-yum hunk of delectable...) OK. Enough.

The cover reveal will be around then as well.

It's a steamy story, and definitely for readers aged 17+, but it also has a touch of innocence to it as well. If you liked J.A. Redmerski's Edge of Never, then this one's for you.

Then...........

Drum roll...........

After that....................

Finally.................................

After all the requests, emails, comments..................................................

NAIVE MISTAKES #4

I've had too many requests for this to ignore it any longer. I'm currently researching the story, visiting some interesting places. I want it to be the best of all four. I don't want it to be a "tacked on" story just because people demanded more. I want it to be a natural continuation of Leora and Conall's lives. Yes, I've decided it will be Leora and Conall's story that gets continued, and if any of the other characters tell a story, then it will either be its own series, or it will move into a Naive Mistakes 5 or something.

But it will definitely be Leora telling the story, as she has done in the first three books.

I won't say too much more about it because it's so early in the planning stages, but it's on the way. So, keep a spot open for it on your shelves. Release date? Too soon to tell. But definitely this year. Meanwhile, I have plenty of other books you could read to keep you busy. :)

Advanced Review Copies

I'm just putting something out there to see if there's any interest.

My next book / series is well under way. It'll be out around mid July. I think you're all gonna like it. I think it's my best work to date.

I want to see if I can generate some interest before publishing. Not sure if it'll work (I'm still a small fish) but here goes:

If you're a blogger or know a blogger or have a blogger-uncle-aunt-grandmother and would like to receive an Advanced Review Copy of my next book, email me (or Facebook me or leave me a comment) with your name and the blog you run so I can have a look at it. Those of you who know me know that I run pretty fast so please also tell me how long you'd take to read and review a book of about 150 to 200 pages--easy reading.

I know there's NetGalley, I know there are Blog Tours. I know. I'm just trying something here, getting a feel for things; just wanting to get some feedback to see if it would be worth it to go this route at all.

OK, looking forward to your feedback!

Hi! It's Rachel here!

So, the above is the spiel, now here's me talking "straight" to you. ;)

Thanks for your patience in waiting for this book. It is the longest book I've ever written. Amazon's "estimated" page count always seems to put less pages than when I put the paperbacks together. This book is actually about 450 - 470 pages long based off the formatting I usually use on all my other books. The paperback will only be out near the end of June.

As to other news:

I'll be doing some touring of the USA for a bit, looking for new places to set stories. Many of you have asked for a NAIVE MISTAKES #4. This is definitely on the cards. I am researching the possibilities of this right now. So, stay tuned.

LIKE YOU is a TOP 50 BESTSELLER in the UK! So, in other words, I'm leaving it on sale! It's still available for 99c! You can get it from Amazon US, UK, Canada, Smashwords, B&N, iTunes and everywhere else they sell eBooks!

Thanks again for your support, the emails, the awesome reviews (someone gave me "twenty" stars the other day!) It's what I do this for: Your pleasure and enjoyment.

Love,
R
